After plenty of trial and error and many disappointing trips to smoothie shops I have finally created the perfect green smoothie recipe! I ensure you the tropical flavors cover up any unwanted “green” flavors that may scare you away from trying this. With the health benefits of green tea, arugula, ginger, lemon, and greek yogurt you’ll be shocked at how good this tastes!
Makes enough for 2 small or 1 large smoothie
1 tsp matcha powder dissolved into 1/2 cup hot water (if you do not have matcha make 1/2 cup of strong green tea!) *you may think its odd to add hot liquid to a smoothie, however, it softens the frozen fruit just enough to blend it!*
3/4 – 1 cup frozen mango
3/4 cup frozen pineapple
1 frozen banana
2 cups greens (spinach, arugula, kale)
1/3 cup orange juice
1/3 cup plain greek yogurt
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 inch ginger (grated), more or less to taste
**Ginger Hack** Peel and cut fresh ginger root into chunks and freeze in a bag until you need to use it. When you need it just grate the frozen ginger using a microplane, or slice thin. Grating or slicing frozen ginger is a lot easier than fresh ginger and it deals with the annoying stringy fibers present in ginger root.
Place frozen fruit, greens, OJ, yogurt, lemon juice and ginger into blender. Pour warm tea over all other ingredients and blend on high for about 5 minutes or until leaves are completely broken down and smoothie appears creamy light green.
**this is not required, but adding some fresh basil leaves add beautiful flavor and additional health benefits to the smoothie!
